What do I do when an SDS has expired?
The order stops. Under WHS Regulation 344 a sheet is reviewed at least every five years, and a site cannot hold a hazardous chemical without a current one.
This is a blocker, not a warning. It is not an administrative tidy-up: while the sheet is out of date, every site register holding that product is out of date with it, and the delivery cannot legally be made.
Reissuing is a single action and it clears every affected site at once. Do not reissue a sheet you have not actually received from the supplier: the point of the register is that it is true.
What to do
- 1 Open the item on the SDS & Chemical Register and check the issue date and the five-year review date.
- 2 Request the current revision from the supplier if you do not already hold it.
- 3 Press Reissue sheet & register. Every site holding that product is cleared in the same action.
- 4 The order can now be confirmed. The updated sheet travels with the next delivery docket automatically.
